The massive online debate surrounding Janhvi Kapoor’s character portrayal in Peddi has been catching serious heat, and Kangana Ranaut has now weighed in on the hypersexualisation row. While speaking about the ongoing controversy, the actress-politician acknowledged that mainstream cinema’s lens has historically been very harsh and unfair toward women. However, she also pointed out that objectification is a deep-rooted societal issue that stretches far beyond movie screens, noting that women face it daily in local trains, buses, and on the streets.
Kangana explained that the creative line between artful seduction, vulgarity, and doing complete injustice to women often gets blurred in the entertainment industry. While she feels that industry course correction is necessary at times, she called out the current ruthless culture of online trolling and outrage. The actress emphasized that audiences should look at the larger subject and plot relevance before passing harsh judgments on grey characters or cinematic sequences. Peddi, starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, hit theatres on June 4th and has been drawing intense scrutiny over specific romantic tracks and camera angles.
