Shehla maintains that some slogans of not good taste were raised in JNU

Shehla Rashid Shora, Jawarharlal Nehru University vice-president (JNUSU), said that some slogans were raised on 9 February 2016, the day on which the program on Afzal Guru was held, which were not in good taste. She added that the comments were condemned by JNUSU.

One of the allegations on the JNU students was rising slogans of ‘Pakistan zindabad’ on that day.  M. Phil student of law and governance at the university,  Ms. Shora said, “If Pakistan was a country with social equality for women and minorities, then I would be the first one to raise that slogan.”

Replying to a question on transparancy since 9 Feb, Shehla said, “Life has changed for the better now as our issues were not covered much before. But now we have much more space.”

“The government (Centre) is terrorising students with arrests. In this era of privatisation, JNU offers affordable education for everyone. Even the child of a poor man can study here along with that of a rich person,” said Shehla.

Maintaining some slogans of not good taste were raised, Shehla said that not a single  JNU students was involved but those who raised them were the citizens of this country.

“There is a difference between supporting Afzal Guru and being against the death penalty. Those who are for the latter, oppose the punishment, be the killers of Rajiv Gandhi as well,” Shehla maintained.
