Police arrested suspect for assault and murder

A suspect has been arrested in Denver, who is being accused of assaulting two random teenagers and then beating a 62-year-old man to death.

According to Denver Police Department, the assault occurred near Curtis and 25th streets at about 4 a.m on 16th June.

The police reports stated that after the officers arrived at the scene incident, they found two teenagers beaten down in what appeared to be a random assault. One of the teens had "significant facial injuries.”

A witness said that the attacker fled towards the 2400 block of Curtis Street after the incident.

The officers said that they noticed a person lying in the middle of the street and a man was "continually striking the victim in the chest with force."

The suspect has been identified as 28-year-old Dejuan Stamps.

The officers said that the suspect “rushed” when they challenged him.

In the process, a officer was injured, but police successfully took Stamps under custody.

The 62-year-old victim identified as James Farmer, Jr. died at the. An autopsy confirmed that the victim died from the blunt force injuries.

The police reports suggested that Farmer was a homeless person and had been spending every night in his black Saab.

Witnesses sad that Farmer heard the commotion and got in the middle to help those teenagers, but unfortunately ended up becoming a victim himself.

Officials at the Saint Francis Center knew Farmer and described him as "a good man."

"People who know what's right, do what's right. And he was one of those people who did it. He stepped up to help. And unfortunately, it cost him his life.

But he was a good man," a shelter official said.

Police said that the suspect was also homeless, but had been banned by the homeless shelter last month.

After the attacks, Stamps was transported to the hospital for evaluation and was placed on an investigative hold for first-degree murder.
