Suspect pleads not guilty in Denver hotel pipe bomb case

A Pakistani-origin man, who was accused of having pipe bombs in a hotel room in downtown Denver has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

35-year-old Adam Hayat, entered the plea at a hearing on Thursday morning. He was charged with possession of an explosive device not registered to him for which he faces a maximum of 10 years in jail and fine maximum up to 250,000.

Police arrested Hayat in Los Angeles, last month after the explosives were found allegedly found in the safe of the room, in which he was staying. Investigators said that a note written on a mirror referenced post-traumatic stress and the word “explosives”.

Investigators were able to track down cell phone of the suspect to a hotel in Los Angeles, and he was arrested without any incident.

According to the Associated Press, prosecutors said that Hayat planned to strap the explosives to his waist and blow himself up in Pueblo.

Julia Martinez, the assistant Untied States Attorney argued on Thursday that Hayat should be held until his trial.

The testimony did not make clear, if Hayat had plans to harm others, and authorities have not answered, if the suspect had plans to harm others and also why he planned to set off the explosives in Pueblo.

Hayat’s attorney that his client was mentally ill and should be moved to a halfway house.

The judge ordered that Hayat will remain in custody, until his trail and receive mental health care, while in custody.
