Teenager kills man in southeastern Colorado Springs

A man was shot dead in southeastern Colorado Springs on early Thursday morning, police said.

The shooting occurred at around 3 a.m., at a Townhome community on Lexington Village Lane, which is in the area of Chelton Road and Astrozon Boulevard.
Police said that the incident took place after a couple got into a fight.

The woman’s 19-year-old son, then shot the man to protect her, p0olcie said. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It was not clear, if the man who was shot was the father of the  19-year-old.

The woman’s neighbor said that he was not surprised by the incident. He said that the man would be often at home, speeding through the neighborhood.

The neighbor also suspected that the man was taking drugs.

TESSA, which is an organization that helps victims of domestic and sexual abuse, said that these types of incidents are not uncommon.

The executive director of TESSA, SherryLynn Boyles said that two-thirds of all teenage boys commit murder because their mother is abused, so they kill the abuser.

He said those boys, who grow up in domestic violence families are more likely to get involved and more likely to get injured at the age of 14.

The impact would not stop there, Kids those, who grow up in these homes are more likely to commit suicide, abuse drugs or get pregnant.

Police said that they have not arrested the teenager.

Police officers are investigating, whether the shooting was an act of self-defense.
