Causing intensified disgust as well as disgrace, now a new variety of mango which is harvested at Uttar Pradesh's famous mango centre Malihabad, has been named as Nirbhaya after the 23-year-old Delhi girl was brutally gang-raped Dec 16 last year added to her death as a result of her injuries two weeks later.
That was not just enough because the new variety grower Kaleemullah Khan expressed that it was his way of honouring the bravery and spirit of the young physiotherapist, whose rape and death fired the entire nation. While Khan, who has been awarded with a Padma Shri, said he had planted the tree three years ago at the same time was surprised that it bore fruit in such a short span. Khan added that the mangoes were 'slightly small' on the contrary he expressed about his hope that the next harvest would be normalized.
Prominent facts remain that Khan who is 57, happens to be a iconic mango grower added to his name registered in the Limca Book of World Records for growing 300 varieties of mangoes on a single tree while 1999, he was known to have grown 54 varieties of mangoes on a single tree as well as gifted the tree to the president which still finds place in the Mughal Gardens at the sprawling Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
Elapsed in time, Khan's new mango varieties have also been named after celebrities like actresses Aishwarya Rai and Nargis, Congress president Sonia Gandhi at the same time Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
It may sound as if an element of honour is hidden behind his perception even though another prevalent fact comes into actuality and that is the painful and nonsensical incident that have taken place on Dec 16 last year.
Let us not try to honour someone who had to face such brutal death because in that case it sounds artificial as well as a matter of hype.
If we really feel sorry for her moment then let us fight against the crime.
As such mournful death cannot be taken as a reason to brand her name making her a celebrity.
