Keeping ourselves in good shape can be hard with the busy lives we lead in India today. Because we are always rushing, we often don't get all the important nutrients we need. As healthcare and food prices keep going up, it's really important to pick the right extra things to eat to make up for what we're missing. Certain add-ons can be helpful for common shortages found in Indians. Nutrition expert Rashi Chowdhary is sharing the three best add-ons that all Indians should have in their food plan. She mentions, "Our grandmas and grandpas didn't have these, right? But we certainly need them. Even if you are eating the same lentils, veggies, and bread as your parents and grandparents did, you still feel tired, sad, and keep getting sick. It's clear that what you all think is good for you isn't good enough anymore." These are the 3 add-ons you should include in your food plan:
Vitamin D: When we talk about vitamin D, it's not about how much you get from the sun. Your vitamin D levels should be more than 60. If you're at 20-30, you're considered normal but not at your best. Vitamin D makes your body stronger, lifts your mood, and helps with losing weight. Not having enough vitamin D is linked to being overweight, low AMH, and many other problems.
Vitamin B12: This is great for your brain. Vitamin B12 assists your brain cells to work the way they should, and without it, you might feel down and sad all the time. This stuff helps create brain chemicals like dopamine, serotonin, and GABA, which all make you feel happy. If you've been taking medicine for stomach issues, birth control, or cholesterol, your body will need more B12.
Omega-3: Omega-3 is amazing not only for your hormones but also for your skin and reducing swelling in your stomach. It can make your body respond better to insulin if you have PCOS. DHA and EPA, which are kinds of omega-3 fats, should always be more than 800.
While these add-ons are important, they won't do much good if your stomach isn't healthy. If your stomach isn't doing well, you won't soak up the nutrients right. If you're having stomach problems, get them fixed first, and then you can begin taking your add-ons.
