“The Bachelor” star withdrawn Colorado House candidacy

Ben Higgins, “The Bachelor” star who has filed in last week, to run for Colorado’s House District 4, has withdrawn his candidacy.

It was announced in a statement distributed by Walt Disney Co. publicist Caly Johnson, and was also posted on the Ben Higgins for Colorado website. “The Bachelor” is produced by Disney-owned ABC television network.

It has been reported that Ben Higgins was running for public office in Colorado. He explored the idea and decided not to run. He said, “I regret that I must withdraw my candidacy. Despite my best efforts to pursue this opportunity in good faith, I recently received information that has made such a pursuit unworkable. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I will not be able to move forward as a candidate. I find solace in knowing that our intentions and actions have been fair and sincere. I entered into this endeavor wanting to bring positive change to my community, and it is with that same spirit that I will move forward, albeit on a different path.”

According to the source, Disney “got very squeamish about the politics, especially with Ben being a Republican. The ultimatum that was given to Ben was ‘If you run, we will take you out of The Bachelor franchise.’ ”

Production of  “Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After,” which would follow Higgins and Bushnell as they planned their wedding, has not yet begun. The show has been scheduled to air starting in October.

The source informed that the company’s attorneys have “decided this was an issue” just as the Republican National Convention has taken place in Cleveland. Higgins had filed his candidacy documents with the Colorado Secretary of State’s office on Friday, July 15. The convention began on Monday and ended on Thursday.
