An Amber Alert issued Monday afternoon on behalf of the Greeley Police Department was canceled less than half an hour after it was first issued when the child that authorities had been searching for was found safe.

The Amber Alert was issued shortly after 3:30 p.m. Monday for a white Kia Rio with Colorado license plates VQC534. But it was canceled about 25 minutes after it was first issued, when Greeley police said the child had been found safe.

A Greeley police spokesperson told Denver7 that they arrested Heather Garduno, 42, in relation to the Amber Alert. The police spokesperson said she had taken her roommate’s 6-year-old daughter out to a pawn shop around 10 a.m. Monday against the girl’s mother’s will.

Police said the girl’s mother had told Garduno she didn’t want her taking the girl out of the house, and when they were notified, they tracked Garduno throughout the day.

Garduno was taken into custody around 4 p.m. for investigation on kidnapping charges, police said. The spokesperson said the young girl was not injured.

Authorities are working to gather more information about why the Amber Alert was issued at the time it was. This story will be updated with more information as we learn more.
