Axe Targeting Bar In Denver

The idea of hurling axes at targets sounds pretty interesting and fun, but is it really safe, especially when you are drunk?

There is a new bar opened in Denver, which gives you the opportunity to hurl axes at targets and drink beer.

The owners of the bar “The Axe Room” says it is a different way to compete and have fun.

It is definitely not an everyday sport unless you are a lumberjack, but owners Peter Lalor and Steve Johnson hope it will be soon.

“I moved to Denver about a year ago and we found a place that was perfect for it," Lalor says. "And it seems like a great activity and it fits with the local culture.”

The concept is already going famous in Canada.

“This not a new activity, but doing in this social environment where you incorporate being above a brewery is something just starting to spread in the states recently,” Lalor says.

Johnson said that right now their bar has only one lane, but they are adding up more and plan to have a total of six lanes.

Just like any other sport, there is a competition.

“Competition gets pretty heated as well," Johnson says. "The last one was pretty intense: the bachelor won, yeah, the bachelor! And the best man had to go into overtime to determine who won.”

The owners said that they will post rules of the game throughout the bar if the friendly competition gets too heated.

“If people start getting out of control and are visibly inebriated that's the end of their day as far as the weapons go - they are not allowed to throw anymore,” Lalor says.

They have also designed cages that will stop drinkers with poor aim from throwing an axe wide left.

“One of the big things we want to stress is safety because that is our first priority, Lalor says.

The bar is also home to an art gallery, where Denver residents will have a chance to show off their creations.

Right now the bar is open by appointment only, but the owners are hoping to have a set schedule by August.
